Who We Are

The club has been running since December 1976, having started as a group of friends meeting to fence in a garden. It now meets weekly in the Village Hall in St Michaels, Tenterden, Kent.
Over the years the club has built up a good reputation in the area both in terms of local competition results and for welcoming new members of any ability. Our current membership, of around fifty, ranges from

9-year old novices through to the vastly-experienced Veterans' Epée World Champion. Last year we were the only provincial club to send four members to the Veterans Word championships in Moscow. We encourage entry into both team and individual competitions at all levels, and travel to Belgium and the Netherlands for team matches and social weekends.
The club encourages fencing at all three weapons. We have a regular qualified Regional Coach. Several members regularly help out in coaching and encouraging the youngsters, who have their own exclusive time before the older members arrive. The older boys and girls often stay on for the adult sessions as long as we have their parents permission. The club also runs the Invicta Open Championship every year, drawing up to 200 fencers from home and abroad.

Who can come?

Anyone over the age of nine. If you've fenced before, great, bring any kit you have and muck in. If you haven't, come along with a pair of trainers and loose jeans or jogging bottoms and look lost. Someone will soon point you in the right direction.

Where and when?

St Michaels Village hall is in Grange Road, which is off the A28, between Tenterden Town and the village of High Halden. We meet every Thursday night (including school holidays). The Under-16's session starts at 7:00 p.m, and the Adult session starts at 8:00. The younger kids usually finish at around 8:00. The evening finishes at 10:00, when appearance at the local hostelry is (fairly) compulsory.

And How Much?

We have managed to keep the club fees low, and the first night comes free. Annual membership costs £20 p.a. for adult members, £12 for students and £6 for under-14s, and runs from 1 January.
Weekly fees are £5.00, £3.50 and £3.00p respectively for paid-up members, £6.00, £4.00 and £3.50p for non-members.
